England head coach, Thomas Tuchel has rejected the notion that Ben White rejected a callup to the national team.
Tuchel confirmed Arsenal defender White wants to return to the England set-up.
The German gaffer is said to have held talks with White over the prospect of making an England comeback.
The defender has not represented the Three Lions since leaving their camp for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar early.
“Ben White didn’t refuse the call, he loves to be back in the squad,” the former Chelsea manager told the press on Friday after the squad was announced with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson and Reece James included.
“I just think it’s a bit too early now for him given the seriousness of his injury. I’m delighted he’s back. We’re monitoring his progress. Thanks to everyone at Arsenal”.
Tuchel’s predecessor as England manager, Gareth Southgate, said in March 2024 that FA technical director John McDermott had received a call from then-Arsenal sporting director Edu saying White did not wish to be considered for international selection.
Tuchel, a former Bayern Munich boss, in December, confirmed that he would “reach out” to the defender and revealed in his press conference following his first squad selection that the defender is keen to return.
